HOW CAN WE USE PROVERBS IN ORDER TO LEARN ENGLISH?

   In our everyday lives, we often use proverbs that belong to our own culture. English people use their own proverbs as well because every culture has a group of wise sayings that say something about how to live and control your life. In every culture, you can see a lot of proverbs that offer advices and suggestions. 
   
   Especially, if you are learning English, it is really good to know the common English proverbs as learning proverbs can also help you good example sentences that you can memorize and use. In your everyday conversations, you can use the English proverbs according to the content's suitability  

   In this post, I am going to talk about the common English proverbs and their definitions. I hope they will be useful for all of you. Also, you can be sure that as long as you use all these proverbs, you can appear cool. ;) 

  • The pen is mightier than the sword. = ) Trying to convince people with words and ideas is more effective than trying to force people to do what you want.
  • When in Rome, do as the Romans. = ) Ac the way that the people around you are acting.
  • Two wrongs do not make a right. = ) When somebody has done something bad to you, trying to get revenge will only make things worse.
  • No man is an island. = ) You can't live completely independently. Everybody needs help from other people.
  • People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. = ) Do not criticize other people if you are not perfect yourself!
  • Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst! = ) Bad things might happen, so be prepared!
  • Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. = ) If you have an enemy, pretend to be friends with them instead of openly fighting with them. In that way, you can watch them carefully and figure out what they are planning.
  • There is no place like home. = ) Your own home is the most comfortable place to be in.
  • The early bird catches the worm. = ) If you want to be successful, you should wake up and start working early.
  • Cleanliness is next to godliness. = ) We should be clean and fresh because God likes cleanliness.
  • If it ain't broke, do not fix it! = ) Never try to mend something that already work quite well! You will probably end up causing new problems.
  • Easy come, easy go! = ) When you get money quickly, like by winning it, it is easy to spend it or lose it quickly as well.
  • If you can't beat them, join them then! = ) For instance ; your friends do not want to study but you want to study. Instead of studying, they prefer partying. If it's like that, maybe you should party with them.
  • There is no time like the present. = ) If you have to do something, do not postpone it! Do it right now!
  • Don't put all your eggs in one basket! = ) We always should have a second plan just in case. You should not risk all of your money or time in one plan.
  • You can't judge a book by its cover. = ) A book's cover can seem old and worn but this doesn't mean that its content is also old. Maybe, you can find amazing ideas in such a book.
  • Two heads are better than one. = ) If two people are hand in hand, they can come up with better ideas.
  • Honesty is the best policy. = ) Do not lie! Always be an honest person!
  • Look before you leap! = ) You shouldn't be hasty. Make sure that you know what's going to happen next. When making a big jump in your life, make sure that you have looked at the situation and really understood it before you take a big action. Try to foresee!
  • Let the cat out of the bag! = ) Someone allows a secret to be known. For example ; I was trying to keep the party a secret but Emel went and let the cat out of the bag.
